Laws current as of September 26, 2024 What is the legal definition of domestic violence?
This section defines domestic violence for the purposes of getting a domestic violence restraining order.
U.S. Virgin Islands defines domestic violence as the attempt, threat, or act of:
- harassment;
- threats;
- false imprisonment;
- stalking;
- kidnapping;
- destruction of property;
- unlawful sexual contact;
- rape;
- coercion (forcing/pressuring/intimidating you into doing something);
- burglary/forcible or unlawful entry;
- assault/battery; and/or
- violation of a restraining order.1
