Restraining Orders

No special relationship between the child and the abuser is necessary¹ as long as you believe that the person committed one of the acts described in For what crimes can I get an order for protection of children?  It may be a neighbor, a teacher, or a stranger.  It may also be a parent or relative, however you may also want to consider an order for protection against domestic violence if the abuser is related to the child.

Note: If your child has contact with an adult who committed a crime against another child, you cannot apply for an order for protection of children unless the abuser committed a crime against your child.  For example, if you know that there is a registered sex offender/ pedophile living next door, you cannot apply for an order for protection to keep him/her away from your child unless s/he harms your child.
